THE NEW CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GROUP FORMAT BEGINS FROM 2024— 2025 SEASON

                                                                                                                                      

Champions League( UCL), historically known as European League is an annually competition organized by the Union Of European Football Association

(UEFA) and competed by the  by top-division clubs of Europe.

Fighting for the winner of the competition,  the club goes  through a round robin group stage to qualify for a double-legged knockout format, and a single leg final. 

This was Introduced in 1955 as the Coupe des Clubs Champions Europeans (French for European Champion Clubs' Cup), and commonly known as the European Cup.

 

Since then, the Champions League has been one of the most valued tournament by the European clubs and dreams of players across the globe to win the trophy.

 But this year, UEFA has decided to make changes to the regular group stage style or format.

In its present format, the Champions League begins in late June with a preliminary round,  three qualifying rounds and a play-off round, all played over two legs.

The six surviving teams enter the group stage, joining 26 teams qualified in advance. The 32 teams are drawn into eight groups of four teams and play each other in 

a double round-robin system. The eight group winners and eight runners-up proceed to the knockout phase that culminates with the final match.

This time, UEFA has decided to change the grouping of clubs into eight but rather copy the Swiss style, where 36 teams compete in one big league group.

Where each team plays eight matches against different teams.

The top eight will automatically qualify for the knockout stages,  which the teams that finish 9 24th will then compete in play offs, with eight winners making up to 

remaining spot for the Round of 16.
